Four Seasons of Festivals and Western Culture
Calgary experiences a dry, humid continental climate, famous for its dramatic shifts and brilliant sunshine. In fact, Calgary is the sunniest major city in Canada, enjoying an average of 333 sunny days a year! While winters can bring deep freezes, they are frequently broken up by "Chinooks"βwarm, dry winds blowing in from the Pacific over the Rockies that can raise temperatures by 20Β°C in a matter of hours. Summers are warm and comfortable, perfect for festival season.
Floating the Bow River is a legendary YYC summer tradition. The season safely begins when the spring mountain runoff slows down.
